MODULAR CONSTRUCTION STUDIES
PORTABLE MODULAR HOUSING STUDY & NEIGHBOURHOOD COMPETITION
This week we our project section of the website has been updated with details of several interesting BBM studies.
BBM were asked by a local company, Contaframe to look at converting ‘single use’ containers of non-standard dimensions into portable and stackable residential units for use on short lease brown field sites around urban areas. Two specific sites in Brighton were selected to test the modular approach.

The new Homes for Neighbourhoods Programme was launched by Brighton and Hove City Council to test small sites within the Council’s portfolio of land. BHCC asked the RIBA to manage an open design competition. The brief included four sites each with problematic physical constraints and designed to fit within cost parameters of £1,700.00 per sq. m. Each entrant had to submit solutions for two of the four sites.
