Beechwood Village Hall

Cooksbridge

In early 2005 a community group from the village of Cooksbridge engaged BBM to come up with a cost effective way of converting their village hall facilities into an energy efficient premises with much improved community facilities.

This is BBM’s first official carbon negative building. A rare case of where a small scale wind turbine and a heat pump work efficiently together to make all the heating and electricity the building needs for its running with an excess to sell back to the grid. In its first year of running it made over £400 in electrical generating profit.

The old masonry built structure was overclad in a thick layer of timber fibre insulation (insulation made from nothing but waste timber material) and an outer skin of sweet chestnut rainscreen cladding. The latter is manufactured locally to the site from Wealden coppiced lumber.
