Our brief for 5 Arundel Place was to carry out an eco-conversion of an old Victorian building including a couple of small flats and an old commercial garage into a new single family dwelling. The existing buildings were in a very poor state of repair so the new works included for numerous structural and damp proofing works in addition to achieving an energy performance rating of ‘B’. The Clients worked hard to source the supply of numerous reclaimed and salvaged materials and components for the project which further reduced the project’s carbon footprint.

The building’s features included:

  • Achieves a ‘B’ rated energy performance certificate
  • An internally insulated solution to the external walls and roofs
  • Insulated ground floor with polished screed floor finish
  • Site salvaged stone paving which was reused on the courtyard
  • Reclaimed granite cobbles to the courtyard
  • Floorboards reused in the Study and new oak flooring elsewhere
  • High performance windows and oak double hung sash windows
  • ‘Light cannons’ provide natural daylight deep into the plan
  • Reclaimed solid timber paneled doors
  • Salvaged and reconditioned cast iron radiators to the First Floor
  • Underfloor heating to the Ground Floor
  • Efficient gas condensing boiler coupled with solar thermal panels
  • New slate and lead roof cladding throughout
  • New kitchen with granite worktops
