St Pancras School, Lewes, East Sussex
BBM were appointed to design a new extension for St Pancras School in Lewes. The focus of the brief was to produce a new building with the smallest negative effect on the natural world. To achieve this we utilised completely environmentally benign materials, which were locally sourced.
The project attracted the attention of the governors DfES Innovation unit who awarded the school with £15,000. The pupils used this money to document the progression of the build through the design and construction phases. This footage acted as a learning aid for the children and was transformed into an interactive CD by a local filmmaker Mick Hawksworth. Thereafter this CD was distributed to primary schools throughout the UK.
